He would probably answer in the negative. He has a great voice that a laymen The book of Revelation has always been difficult for me to access.

I think it is a must read for serious students of Revelation, even if you don’t agree with his view which I do not.

Word on the street is that I’m leaning toward a post-millennial eschatology. Please choose whether or not you want other users to be able to see on your profile that this library is a favorite of yours. There are 2 types of commentary: Hendricksen takes a short break from systematically throwing the church age blanket over the Book of Revelation to examine the subject of the initial promise made to Eve in Genesis 3: I would recommend adding to this volume the works of GK Beale, Richard Bauckham, Dennis Johnson and, though I’m unsure whether he’s written a book on it, Arturo Azurdia’s online exposition of Revelation is well worth the time it takes to listen.

It has affected the way I view the world past and present, and it gives me direction as I disciple my kids. I admit that is was strange to hear, for the first time, that much of what Jesus describes in Matthew 24, and Luke 13 was fulfilled in 70AD when Jerusalem was completely destroyed by the Romans.
The books only real shortfall henvriksen that the author occasionally will tell the reader what certain visions or objects symbolizing without revealing how he came to that conclusion.

The only shortcoming for me in his study of the Revelation is what I feel to be an oversimplification here and there that may have led vencedored to a “partially” wrong conclusion.

But even while keeping it amillennial, there are several optimistic notes he strikes when they are inescapable from the text. I was immediately struck with the notion that I was witnessing two extremes; the Dispensationalists on one hand finding black helicopters and nuclear bombs in the book of Revelation, and on the other hand finding this well-respected A-Mil saying that NOTHING is truly representative of past or future events.
Frankly it left me feeling spiritually cold; clinically sanitized.

Even though the author takes the point of view that Revelation has a qie interpretation, he does in fact say that there is some literal meaning in it. I immediately began to feel uneasy about many of Hendricksen’s dogmatic but largely unexamined pronouncements. Hendriksen tries to stay on the conservative side of symbolical interpretation, but vencedoes significant work with symbolism.
I think the danger of interpreting Revelation is willain you isolate the book from everything else. I have studiously avoided eschatology during my five-year Reformed journey because thirty years as Dispensationalist, with their love affair with the modern State of Israel, their pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib rapture debates, and newspaper exegesis left me sick of the whole subject.
A good explanation of the book of Revelation from the amillennial view point. The E-mail message field is required. Hendricksen quickly runs out of things to symbolize and begins taking large portions of Revelation and saying that they’re simply a reiteration of things said earlier in the Book! Truth be told, these silly debates about the timing of the rapture are probably the closest thing to a serious theological discussion that I ever had as an Arminian. It is also the kind of book that any thoughtful lay person can read through and benefit from.
