There’s a lot of interesting information about, well, the New Testament.
The textbook continues to be pedagogically sound, visually oriented, with a good introduction to the historical background of the NT and a satisfactory discussion of the purpose, structure, and major themes of each NT book. Mar 02, Beth rated it it was ok Shelves: Written for college students as well hew laity, it is certainly attention-getting. The book is beautifully illustrated with photos, maps, and diagrams.
In addition, the bibliography in the ‘Further Reading’ section is lewell and contains very helpful resources. However, there is much to be commended from these sections, as—like the rest of this text—they incorporate numerous very helpful images, maps, and timelines, lists of suggested resources for further reading, and a selection of key terms and study questions.
An accompanying website through Baker Academic’s Textbook eSources offers a wide array of resources for students and professors. Clear, concise, and interesting.
Finally, it is my hope from the knowledge that I have gained from the completion of this book, that God will use it not for selfish ambition or gain, but solely for the purpose to glorify God, especially amongst the people that God will place in my path. This textbook is designed to facilitate an understanding of the theology and history of the New Testament that enables students to undertake an honest encojntering informed reading of the New Testament text for themselves.
Encountering the New Testament makes a fine college textbook as well as an excellent text for lay people to learn more about the New Testament.

Book Review: Encountering the New Testament (Elwell and Yarbrough)
Each of these subsections contains a wealth of information and more than adequately provides an overview of the areas in consideration. The Messiah Has Come! And while a bad first impression can be overcome often through much hard worknothing sets the stage for future success in any relationship like getting off on the right foot.
